    Brass hot Water Check Valve

We have a 2020 337RLS that had a leaking check valve at the tank. The hot water heater is a 6 gallon Atwood and the valve that was from the factory was plastic. Long story short I bought a brass one online and installed it.

My question is will I have a problem with this brass valve in an aluminum tank?

I don’t think so. In my previous rig had the Atwood with brass relief valve, no issues in 14 years of ownership. Current rig is 2 years old now zero issues so far. Flush tank twice a year.

Thank you for the info. Guess I'll just call it fixed.

Usually not a problem unless there is saltwater in contact with the junction of metals.

I would a bit afraid of the brass fitting on an aluminum tank, even without saltwater in contact with the fitting.

Unless using distilled or desalinated water, there is trace salinity in most drinking water.

I have leaned not to use aluminum and brass connections together when hooking up my garden hoses. Even after a couple months, I need pliers to disconnect those fittings. That is the beginning of galvanic corrosion.

Not that using a bras fitting is going to ruin an aluminum water heater tank in short time, it seems to me that it could a problem over the long term.

If the brass valve and aluminum tank are in direct contact with each other, you will have galvanic corrosion occur. The aluminum tank will corrode more because it is more anodic than brass. Both fresh water and salt water will act as an electrolyte to cause galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals when they are electrically connected, ie. in direct contact with each other. Higher temps will cause faster galvanic corrosion.

Electrically isolated by placing a short piece of tubing or hose between the brass and aluminum will prevent galvanic corrosion.

I learned more than I ever wanted to know about galvanic corrosion a few years back when I owned a 32 foot aluminum hulled boat.

OK. I didn't know that GD used Atwoods. All of my previous RVs used the same brand appliances across all of their lines.
I did have to replace the pressure relief valve on my 2001 Wilderness that had an Atwood in it. Both the factory one and it's replacement were brass.
Not an issue in the 10 years I owned it

That would have been nice, the one on my 2019 351M was plastic, and cracked. A real PIA to replace, especially since it broke while try to remove.
