    Lug nuts... again

Looking for some clarification or opinions

Want to replace the stock capped lug nuts before they give me any problems.

They are 9/16x18, the stock one are the "bulge conical" style seat but the McGard replacements have the regular seat. https://shop.mcgard.com/products/aut...-of-8-lug-nuts

Doing the research, I don't think it matters. The bulge style seems to be for aluminum rims to give them a larger seating surface. The Lionshead wheels, while aluminum, have a steel insert in the lug area and looking at how the stock lugs seat, about half of the conical seat does not touch the rim.

So just throwing it out there in case I'm missing something.

The hemispherical end of the lug nuts center the wheel on the studs, since the wheels are not located by the ring on the wheel.

I understand that, but its immaterial to this question. They both have a 60 degree conical seat. The bulge style lug has a larger base creating more surface area, a larger seat. But the way the stock lugs sit in the rims, that larger surface area does not touch the rim.

Not the greatest comparison as they look similar in these photos. But you cab see the top one "bulges" out at the bottom

Okay, I understand, your initial post was a little confusing as you referred to a "bulged conical' seat, but that "bulged" part doesn't contact the wheel. So, yes, you're correct that the larger surface area doesn't contact the wheel. As long as the conical seat is the correct angle you should be good to go.

Thanks, that's what I thought, but some confirmation doesn't hurt.

Amazing that everything makes sense in your head but it doesn't always translate to words!
