    Ford mis labeled payloads

I’m not sure how many people know about this recall ford will be doing, apparently there are several 2020 F350 SW trucks that have the wrong payload shown on the door sticker. After doing a lot of digging around I have found the max payload now on a F350 is 3751 for the 12400 GVWR truck. I always wondered how a SW could be so close to a dually but I’m not an engineer. So that old saying if something looks to good to be true it probably isn’t, well this time it appears to be correct.

So now I’m trying to figure out how to get back into a dually without getting hurt to bad.

My 2020 F350 was manufactured 9/15 at the Kentucky plant and it falls in the later part of the date range. At 3484 payload sticker I don’t think it’s wrong. My previous 2017 and 2019 F350s were 3500 and 3523 lbs.

I bought my truck because it showed 4561 payload

I did get the notice in my Ford Pass, so I’m sure my payload will drop to around 3700 pounds or less

There are 2 GVWR options for a LB diesel. 11,400 and 12,400. Which does your silver sticker state?

If it’s off significantly I would call Ford Customer service and ask for a Lemon Law buy back request so you can get another (DRW) close to labeled payload so that can legally tow your Momentum. I think you would have a good case since you bought it based on the label allowing you to tow your trailer.

Mine is the 12,400 GVWR and it shows a 4561 payload which is a lot for a single wheel truck. I have seen a F450 with a payload only a few hundred pounds more recently. So I do think ford has messed up big time.

Thank you for the advice I will take it and see where I end up.

4,561 may not be that far off with a GVWR of 12,400 lbs. possibly 200-300 lbs max. I expect your payload to at least be more than 4,200 lbs.

For example my F350 CCSB diesel has a payload of 3484 lbs with a GVWR of 11,500 lbs and weight of 8,016 lbs. 11,500-8,016=3484

A F350 Diesel CCLB probably weighs 150 lbs or so more than mine. So 12,400-8166=4232 lbs.

I weighed my truck with full tank of fuel (48 gal) my hitch, an aluminum tool box with a some things inside, a back flip cover, me and my dog and it came in at 9020 only 200 pounds less then my 2019 dually with all the same stuff in it. The thing that got me was when I saw the payload of an F450 a little more than 4700 pounds, same trim level as my truck. Yes I know the F450 weighs a little more, but how can my truck be that close in payload.

Also I figure if I load my rear axle to max I have about 160 pounds left of maxing out the rear tires.

I’m pretty frustrated needless to say.

Mainly because the payload rating on the f450 has zero to do with its actual capabilities. It’s artificially low do to the 14,000 gvwr they put on it to keep it a class 3 truck.

But yes the 45xx ratings on a bunch of SRW 350’s are wrong. I would be absolutely p|%%[] if I bought one of those trucks based on the sticker. I don’t know how Ford can get out of buying them back but I’m sure they will and the consumer will get screwed.

Well after a lot of figuring and a Ford dealer that understood my issue I ended up trading in the SW for a new F350 DW Limited. It was very hard finding a truck that met my needs, a limited wasn’t what I needed but checked off all the boxes and then some. The dealer gave me a great trade in, it cost me around $4600 to to drive my last truck 10k miles in 13 months. They also sold me the truck way below MSRP.

Now I have a truck with a true 5350 pound payload and no more worries on what my SW will have been reduced to.
