    Factory exterior sidewall caulking?

Hi everyone. We're getting ready to take delivery of our new Solitude and past experiences with new trailers have me wanting to be prepared in advance. I've searched around, but can't find the info anywhere....so does anyone know what the factory sidewall caulking is? I'm hoping it isn't silicone and probably will plan on using Proflex for repairs unless there are other recommendations.

I followed the alpha roofing threads with interest and will be using their version of eternabond and self-leveling caulking to ensure good roof protection.

    Thanks in advance!

Yes, it is silicone. We have another thread going about that too. The thing you need to know is that in order to replace with Proflex or other sealant of your choice, you will need to remove the silicone completely first or you will not achieve good bond and sealing.

    Hi Maxowner.

Because nothing sticks to silicone...not even more silicone. So, to re-caulk you have to scrape off the old silicone and then use a chemical silicone caulking remover before applying new product. They use silicone because it is inexpensive, but i makes a tedious job even worse.

Actually, that's not the case. The silicone the factory uses is not less expensive than Proflex. They use silicone because of ease of workability, how well it initially seals, and long working time per tube. Speed and function. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of silicone. Just understand their decision-making, which is based on production needs and not O&M.
