Water Heater on gas makes exhaust plume

    Hi All,
On our new 22MLE after our initial run (3 days), I noticed a black soot plume coming up from our water heater exhaust vent. Seems to be running "rich". Is there an adjustment for how much gas this thing uses?

There is an air/fuel adjustment on tube going from gas valve to burner. Most likely cause is spider webs, Bees or some other obstruction in tube

Like @Bookumdanno said for the adjustment. It's also new so it's normal to have a strange smell. Have you open it up and looked at it while the flame is on to see if sometimes seems not right?

I little manufacturing oil burning off for a few minutes is fine. Black smoke plume, not good at all.

When the burner is on you should see a nice blue flame through sight glass. Very very little or no yellow flame.

If your stove burners and oven flame burn fine, then your regulator at the tanks should be fine. As mentioned before, follow the burner tube from the valve to the burner. There is an adjustable vent with slots in it, those slots should be free and clean of any debris.
