    NE FL Brake Mechanic?

I would like to upgrade the drum brakes on our Solitude to disc brakes and cannot
find anyone to do it in the NE FL area.

GENERAL RV, Orange Park, while listed as a service center for such, asserts they do not.
I even mentioned they were listed and they said yeah we need to correct that...

Does anybody know of any Brake shop that will between JAX and Orlando?

    Independent mechanic?

Call Performance Trailer Braking. I think they will come to you. Sorry don't have their number right now.

Contact Bill At https://stopyourtrailer.com/ He’s on the east coast of Florida and sells complete kits reasonably. He sold us our kit and recommended a shop in Tampa to do the installation. He shipped the parts to that shop and after they inventoried all parts they set up an installation appt. I took the trailer to them first thing one morning and by 4 pm they were done.

Back then, 2017, the kit was $1400 and labor was about $600.

Best thing I ever did for the trailer.

EDIT: I just checked my records. Brakes were $1,410.74 with shipping and tax, labor at Rentz Brakes http://www.rentztrailers.com/ in Tampa area was $640.93. Of course I’m sure prices have gone up.

Still 1500.00 less, but I would imagine the kits have gone up to at least 2000, and labor to 800.

Still a 700 savings...but these guys come to me, so there's that.

Thanks for the info! I'll consider it for sure.

I used Performance for my disc brake conversion and couldn't be happier. You wanted to know if it's worth it? Probably worth twice that much when you realize you can stop your 310GK without any difficulty. Trust me, don't wait another minute and get it done, you cannot imagine the difference.

The two companies are comparably priced kit-wise. PTB kit is better IMO because of minimal flex line. If you understand how brake systems work, the issue will be obvious to you. As for install, PTB can ship to a shop too. You just pay for the convenience of your site install if you use one of the mobile teams. Their team that covers Florida has more years of trailer suspension experience than you will ever find at any local shop. Your choice either way, but IMO/IME disc brakes should be standard on any camper over 10K gross.

I agree, We bought our brakes from Bill and had them installed at Rentz Trailers.

    All around excellent experience.

We even had Bill ship the brakes and hubs directly to Rentz Trailers.

PS: We opted to go with the 8k hubs, rotors, and brakes vs the 7k, the price for the upgrade was minimal and I really liked the extra stopping power available from the 8k hubs and rotors. If this option is available to you I would recommend the upgrade.
