Gas Hot water heater vs Gas hot water tank

Ok I feel like I should know this... But what's the difference between gas hot water heater and gas hot water tank
And do they both need to be turned on.

Different nomenclature, same device. Except there are tankless gas hot water heaters, that, wait for it, have no storage tank.

And pretty unlikely, near impossible, for you to have both that needed to be turned on.

The reason I ask is I had to replace my One Control Touch Panel and both are listed. So I only need to turn on the gas hot water heater?

Are you sure it wasn't "Electric Water Heater" and "Gas Water Heater"? Those are the controls for the different heating elements of the water heater. Not two different water heaters, just two ways of heating the water. You can use one, or the other, or both.

Are you sure it isn't tank heater? Tank heaters are heat pads on the bottom of the tanks.

Looking at your signature, 2019 Momentum, it should have heater pads on tanks.
