    Generators

So if I have two Honda EU2000i gens, delivering 3200 watts of running power, is that adequate for my single 15K AC unit. I have a 2020 Refection 29rs and have read the 15k AC units require about 3600 watts of continual running power(along with inverter draw and whatever else)?

If you replace the original capacitor in the AC unit with a hard start capacitor or an Easy Start device, it will work. Yes you still need to be cognizant of your power consumption.

I believe the 3,600 watts are needed for start up on the a/c. I have 2 Honda 2000’s and have no issues running my a/c.

Matt. Newbie here researching generators for my 2021 Imagine xls 22rbe. I’m thinking duel fuel champion or Westinghouse in the 3600 watts running range. It seems I need to see if my AC has an Easy start on it.
    Question.
Do I need a surge protector when I plug into my 30 amp socket?

I don't think a surge protector will work when plugged into a generator. My old surge protector would not, but I cannot say for sure if all are like that.
I run our air with a Champion 3100. We have two units, a 13K and a 15K - we usually run the 13K but I've run the 15K on the generator before. You have to be careful what else you run and remember that the fridge will switch from gas to electric once the generator fires up unless you lock it on gas mode. That and the microwave will trip the overload
I noticed you're in Durham - if you're not too far from me I can let you try to run your AC on our Champion 3100 if it helps you figure things out. It's light enough I can toss it in the back of the truck pretty easily. Just message me if you're interested.

We run with a PI HW50 power protector. When running on a generator the power monitor wants to see ground and neutral tied together. Make a jumper plug for the generator, get a male 110VAC plug and a big piece of wire, jump neutral and ground in the plug and plug it into one of the 110VAC receptacles on the generator.

Jake. Thanks for the generous offer. I may take you up on that. Let me do some more research.

I have 2 Honda 2200 generators and just for funsies I paired them up and hooked the trailer up via a 30 amp adaptor. They easily started one 15K Coleman air conditioner and of course the converter and a few lights. I thought about trying the second A/C as well but chickened out lol. I have the Onan 5500 onboard if needed but it's nice to know the Hondas are a nice backup.

I have 2 Westinghouse 2500's. Both airs have micro air easy starts. I can run both airs relatively easily with the Westinghouse's running together.

That's good to know, thanks! Maybe I will tempt fate, or fuses, and try it on mine sometime. I think we could start a new RV'ing reality show..." Generator Wars" LOL
