Slide toppers
Thinking about installing slide toppers on our 303's three slide outs.
Understand it will help prevent damage to the gaskets in case limbs/twigs are on top when you pull the slide in.
But there's the installation expense and then concern about about awning degradation.
I figure as long as I'm able bodied enough to climb on the roof or ladder, I'll just sweep 'em off before breaking camp. Have to look up there anyway in case debris gets blown in sideways under the awning.
Anything I'm missing other than the topper would maybe keep the interior of the slide out cooler?
Thanks,

Not sure about the benefits, but I remember reading a similar thread that said the toppers can be very noisy in the wind. So, if you live / camp in an area that's frequently windy they may not be worth it.

Hi John,
Further slide topper discussion on this thread.

The only unique thing about putting these on a Reflection is to maintain clearance to the main awning . . . this is really close.

x2 on this. I personally do not have them installed, but a friend of mine does, and they encountered some issues while camping at the beach. the strong winds were catching under the awnings and rocking their camper fairly bad. Some folks in the campground that day even pulled their slides in. After hearing about this, I figured as long as I could climb on top and sweep the top off, that was the best course for me.

I had them on my previous two 5th wheels and really liked them. I've chosen not to add them to my Reflection but I carry a battery operated leaf blower. If we are in an area with a lot of stuff that can fall on the slide I take a whole 2 minutes and blow them off before I close them. I also keep the battery charger in the trailer after I learnt a lesson about battery life

Thanks all, I think you just saved me a few buckaroos.
I owe you a couple of Moscow mules next time we meet up.

Just my 2 cents for what it is worth and not trying to break up the party. I would not have a slide out without one. We camp at Ocean Lakes at Myrtle Beach every year for 7 to 14 days and have for well over the last 10 years. We have never had a problem with slide toppers and leave them out the complete time. We enjoy riding golf cart after thunderstorms and checking damage from people who leave out awnings after every storm. About 1 out of every 100.
Clearance is tight but I have 2 electric awnings plus slide out topper on entrance side all made by Carefree , so it can be done.
Good luck on what you decide.

I agree with Scott.
I have had toppers on every slide on every trailer I have owned with no problems so far.
