    New 3740 S-Class - Tow Vehicle?

I have put a deposit down on a S-Class 3740 after my failed attempt at buying another Open Range travel trailer. I had been towing my smaller travel trailer with a 2018 Yukon XL Denali with the 6.2. i am now dealing on a 2021 GMC truck, and by what i am seeing in the weights etc I need a 3500. the dealer has two identical trucks coming both Denali's with the Duramax, one 2500 and one 3500. initially i was going to go with the 2500 but after looking at my buddies door sticker on his 2500 it says the max 5th wheel hitch weight is 2775lbs and the 3740 S-class has a hitch weight of 2900.

    any opinions?

I'm pretty excited to be a Solitude owner, but I want to make sure I don't take any short cuts

    Welcome to the forum.
There are a few 3740 owners here and hope they chime in, but the loaded pin weight will most likely be closer to 3500lbs loaded. If it were me, I'd get a dually for that trailer.

The two fifth wheel finalists we were considering were the 3740 and the 378. At the time we were shopping, I had an F350 SRW with CC of 3300 lbs. The 2900# pin weight on the 3740 is a dry weight. We would have been over our CCC when loaded to camp. I suppose I could have left the kids, DW and the dog at home, but then we would not have needed the 3740. It’s all about compromises.

In the end, We went with the F450 and the 378 even though the kids voted for the 3740. (The vote was 2 to 2, but since mom and dad have the check book....)

    Agree with@FT4NOW, the 3740 = dually.

1 ton is a need. SRW vs DRW is going to depend upon the payload (obviously) because the loaded Denali trim takes a beefy bite out of it. If only a weekend warrior traveling short distances, a DRW may not be a need, but any real traveling with it I too vote DRW. Your pin with definitely be 3500+ loaded for camping and higher if you get the generator and ponder washer and dryer. We're sitting at 3740 with our 3350 and no washer and dryer.

I really appreciate the input, I think I will opt for the 3500, which was mentioned would be the minimum. no generator but i am considering a washer & Dryer or combo. we currently park at a seasonal site that we have had for 5 years, maybe once a year we go on a 2 - 4 hour trip to some place new. i have some questions about hitches but i will post in the appropriate place.
