    Shakedown Cruise and a List

We just got back from our first trip in our new Reflection fiver.
The trip was 2781-miles. A bit daring for a control freak in a new trailer!
We have a list of, mostly minor issues. Some fit and finish items.
The main beef I had was with the black water drain valve. When I opened the travel cap for the first time, I got a surprise dousing of sewage, even though the valve handle indicated that the valve was closed! After a bit of choice mumblings, I was able to get the drain hose connected, opened the valve, and drained the tank. I called the dealer for advice, and a tech told me that there was probably some minor debris stuck in the valve seat. In fact, I was unable to move the handle again. There's more to this than some minor debris! I went to The Camping World, in Myrtle Beach, and got a twist on valve to stop the flow until I can get the valve fixed at the dealership. Two other stops, able to contain the sewage, life is good!
Other than this big issue, we are very pleased with our new trailer. We are back home, planning our next trip in May!

You're not the first and won't be the last to get the dump gate dousing.
Sometimes a backflush from the gate valve area will clear it.
You need the sewer attachment that allows you to backflush from the hose connection point.

I had a similar issue on the second outing and was wondering if it was a prank from dealer personnel from a prior service call for a slide issue. Either way it was not cool.

Ken. This was the first time that I ever used this unit. The valve was apparently leaking by a bit, even though closed. I suspect an issue with the cable/handle arrangement?
The first dousing was just liquid. The "good stuff" came while trying to quickly attach the drain hose! I will take your advice on the back flush attachment, though.
    Thanks

Glad you had a mostly good first trip, especially taking such a long trial run.
Hope you enjoyed FL while you were here. How was Pecan Park in Jacksonville? Haven't tried it yet, have stayed at Flamingo Lake several times, really enjoy it.

I have learned to undo the cap without letting it get out of the "deflector" position.
There is almost always something down stream of the gate valves.
I start with a bucket below the connection point, to catch what is "deflected".

Florida was great, although hot for an Adirondack Son!
Flamingo lake was reccomended, but wouldn't allow our dog, a Pittbull.
Turned out that he died before the trip.
Pecan Park was very nice. Well cared for, with nice sites. The only problem. ..its under the approach to JAX airport! LOL!
    Flights stopped at about ten.
