Where to tap into awning light wire?

Hello all. Just got a new 278bh and I am trying to add a dimmer to the circuit for the awning light. I need to get to the pos and neg wire before it goes outside. Does anyone know the best place to tap into this wire? I assume it runs across the ceiling but haven’t really found any wires. I added a dimmer to the overhead led pucks this way and it was not hard. Just requires some locating.

Most of us just add the dimmers right at the command center. Rotary dimmer to replace the lever switch. If you're trying to do a remote dimmer, you can pull the wiring there as well behind the switch.

I don’t think you can add a dimmer to the compass connect models at the panel. Unless someone figured that out?

Well, there's the problem, Compass Connect! Lol. Wasn't even thinking of the gadgetry.

How about identifying the wiring at the One Control brain and then picking it up leaving it and add your dimmer there (or obviously run wire to extend to where you want it).

Does anyone know where the control module for the lights is hidden on the 278bh? Probably the same as the 290bh if someone knows where it is on that one. I still can find the pos and Neg to the awning light somewhere inside the rv. Any suggestions where to look? The main panel clearly feeds the on/off signal but not the actual load to the light.

I found it. Anyone else who is looking needs to go into the front pass through. Remove the panel on the pass through and you will see the wires coming from the one control. You can tap into the pos and neg wires from here and add a dimmer. I used a wireless dimmer from Amazon. It works perfectly. If you aren’t somewhat skilled I might not mess with it but it isn’t that hard either. Make sure you turn off power and shut off the battery switch.

I have a 2018 303 where of the awning lights reach from one awning to the other. I would like to separate those lights from coming on with each other so it’s not so bright. Anyone done this. Would a dimmer switch at the panel work on these lights or are they not meant to dim.

You can access the wiring behind the control panel and separate them there and use two rotary dimmer switches as several people have done. You put the second dimmer into on of the blank switch plates.

Contact Marty Robinson at [email protected] he 3D prints the pieces you need to add them to the panel.

Thanks for the info. I figured the two light strips wires came together before the control panel. That makes it nice. Unfortunately I noticed I don’t have any empty slots to add a second dimmer switch unless I make my own.
