To grease or not grease hitch ball?

Towing my 2019 GD 2600RB every time I come into a campground everyone knows I am there as every time I make turn loud squeaks etc. A fellow RV'r said to put some mechanic grease on the hitch ball. True or false?

If you use an anti-sway bar, that's where the noise is coming from but when I had a travel trailer I always carried a can of White lithium grease and sprayed it on the ball from time to time. Not so much for any squeaking but to keep the ball from rusting as they are prone to do.

True. And not just for the noise. Grease will help limit wear/damage to the ball and coupler

On my second time towing I heard loud noises and thought I broke something. I then read in my hitch manual that ball, coupler, and round bars are to be greased before each tow. After the third time towing and having greased everything I noted to bring shop towels and gloves. I didn't hear the loud embarrasing noises on each turn anymore.

Check to see if you can get nylon pads to go on your weight distribution hitch sway bar anchor points. Equalizer offers them, it help but still have some noise. I always grease ball and other areas on hitch that manual says to grease but never grease pad area - you want friction to prevent sway.

Yes, in general, all hitch balls should have some grease on them. Quiets things down a lot and also keeps the metal from wearing away on the ball (often they are chromed, and that chrome layer is only so thick).

Yes, when I had my previous travel trailer I used moly grease on the ball, weight distribution bar pivots and sway control balls. I used spray silicon on the weight distribution bar chains and chain saddles. The moly grease makes an awful mess if you use too much so a little bit goes a long way. The grease and silicon kept things really quite and I had almost no noticeable wear after five years of towing.
