8 month wait for Onan Generator on 310GK

Just heard from the salesman that the wait for 5500 generator is now at least 8 months. Crikey! Now being offered a 4500 portable gas generator set, together with 2 solar panels with AGM batteries, which he claims will run the AC and everything else “no problem”. Anyone have experience with this set up? I’m concerned about the portable - won’t fit in the existing generator housing, and being outside the rig.

We’re not planning on picking up the rig until late Fall because of the Ford F-350 delivery delays. That’s frustrating enough. Is there ANYTHING these days that is NOT controlled by a computer chip?

The shortage was only about 6 weeks.

I have been ordering generators again for at least 2 weeks. So far, I haven't had any affected units.

I'd wait on the Onan. The portable won't be the same over time. My 4000 was bulletproof as long as you keep the carb and bowl dry when stored. Get a fuel cutoff and let it starve when shutting down.

That 4500 and portable panel is probably worth under $1000. You deserve better.

Custom grips with a thumb rest, ambi safety, and Trijcon sights.....I'm a lefty so the ambi safety was a must for me.....and I agree with what you said about the 1911 in .45

I have 8 of them. Albeit one is in .380 as my minimal concealed carry and one is the lower of a MechTech CCU. My primary has an ambidextrous safety and all of them have Trijicon night sights, Crimson Trace laser grips for low light shooting, and solid guide rods; and no, the laser is not my primary, or even secondary, sight.

Okay, I think we have sufficiently hijacked this thread, so back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Thanks for the advice. I think you’re right. We’ll wait on the Onan.

That's what I would do also. I really like having one onboard, even though we seldom use it. No loading unloading it, no worries (mostly) about it getting stolen, etc, etc.
