For Memorial Day weekend we had a friend stay with us in our
Imagine XLS 17MKE couple's trailer. We removed the theater recliner
seats from the slide out (71 inches from sidewall to sidewall), and
purchased a 74 inch camping cot from Amazon, then cut 3 inches from the
aluminum frame's length (that part was a lot easier than we thought it
would be). We then put a 30-in wide piece of pre-finished plywood on top
of the sleeping cot, and a 4-in thick foam mattress on top of that
(last minute we found a local upholstery place that did custom foam
cutting, it was the most expensive part of the setup but well worth it).
I believe the aluminum frame kept the weight of the bed very low. To
create privacy we used a tension shower curtain rod at the top of the
slide and draped a sheet folded in half over it. Our friend said it was
cozy and private and she slept very well, she's 5'10". There was plenty
of space under the cot for her stuff, also for two beds for our
admittedly small dogs. They seemed really happy with the setup as well,
we think sleeping under the cot gave them the feeling of a safe den, and
they were less in the way than they normally are with the recliners. We
like it so much we've talked about just bringing along a couple folding
chairs and a folding table and leaving the bed as is.
