Cool First Time Travel Trailer Owners in MO

My husband and I are recently retired and just bought our first travel trailer! We are excited and nervous as we have never towed anything before. We just purchased a 2021 Transcend 245RL. We love the roomy floor plan and can’t wait to take our first trip. We just have to buy our tow vehicle now. LOL

Welcome aboard! At least you will be able to buy a capable tow vehicle for your coach. In my opinion, it's always better to oversize the tow vehicle than to over estimate the tow vehicle's capacity!

Welcome from North Carolina! Glad to see you are buying a vehicle to fit the camper - usually it's the other way around!

Hi HappyCamper - that's awesome. Feel free to ask any questions we can assist with, and btw, we just traveled through MO and love the Hermann area. It's part of x-country trip but a great area, just mentioning since it may be close to you. Please let us know how we can best advise to reduce your uncomfortability

    Best,
    Jeff

Thank you! We are south of St. Louis, so not far from Hermann. I am already finding this group very informative. We just have to find a truck so we can take our first trip. I think we have narrowed it down to a Chevy Silverado 2500 gas. Trucks are in short supply right now.

Yes indeed, trucks are hard to come by atm. I work with one of the major auto manufacturers and they are all struggling a bit. I may say, we see a lot of forum members end up desiring more trailer so if I were you, I'd aim for a Silverado 3500 and then negotiate from there. But very glad you are taking the journey and I do not think you'll be disappointed with LazyDay RV near Montgomery City, with trips to Hermann for fun. LazyDay is among our favorite RV parks in Danville MO and I think you'd all would have a ball!

And if you are headed west Camp-a-way in Lincoln, NE is a terrific park that I think is quietly under-rated. If you have kids, this is an epic park, they do train rides, waterslides and hayrides all day. What a great park for kids. Ours are grown up so I'm jealous but if you have time and have kids, this is a good stop.

Congrats and welcome. As others have said, take your time, you'll get the hang of it in no time. Right turns a little wider, never forget to look up. I strongly suggest you get a good quality TPMS and surge protector.
