Hi all - I Found this while searching; I too am wondering how one gets the lug nut caps off (Solitude in my case). Thanks!

On my 2020 Reflection 337 the lug nuts had cheap chrome covers on them that after putting a socket on them and tighting the nuts I had to use a hammer to get the socket off. I replaced the lug nuts with chrome plated lug nuts. Problem solved. If that cover is what you are talking about as far as I know it does not come off.

I guess I'm not really sure what I have. If I place a 7/8" socket over what's shown in the picture, they seem to be torqued down tight. Yet there's a very small amount of play/wiggle on what I think are caps. I feel like I'm torquing down the caps.

Also, there's not enough space between the cap and the wheel to fit an impact socket. I feel like the cap needs to come off first, then I can fit an impact socket. Again, I'm not sure. . . .

    Thanks!

A lot of people including us have replaced those lug nuts with solid lug nuts. One thing those lug nuts are famous for is those caps coming off. Then your socket doesn't fit anymore.

The lugnuts have a crimped on chromed dress up that doesn't come off. Well, until you wrench them with an impact. They're meant to be turned and torqued by hand. A nice set of one-piece, chromed replacements fixes that problem right up!

OK, so the caps aren't intended to come off unless they break off?

Can someone please provide a link or more specifics for the lug nut replacement? Thanks!

Not knowing what is exactly on your rig, just take one off and head to the auto parts store. They'll need to match the thread size and seat style. That's it. McGard is a decent, established brand too.

a second shout out for McGard though they are pricey. Gorilla Nuts are a more cost friendly choice that I got for my F150 which had sleeved lug nuts too (it's a Ford thing). RV lug nuts generally are 1/2" - 20 x 3/4 hex. The size can be confirmed in your trailer axle manual or by taking the axle serial number and contacting the appropriate vendor.

As noted above the lug nut "caps" do not come off (unless damaged) Always use 6 sided socket on these NOT 12 sided, they will damage and jam in short order... as many have found.
