Remember the Nest and other products that use port forwarding off your router, need to be able to connect to your network.
So, you would need a network setup in your trailer for the remote stuff to work. Any cell/router will work.
If you don't care about that and just like the orange glow, then go for it :-)

In my old Rockwood Roo I had replaced my thermostat with a standard home one, but the one in my Reflection does not have the standard wires going to it. There are only three, I think the guts of the thermostat must be up in the AC unit or something, making a standard thermostat more tricky for sure. If it could somehow be converted I would love to do it, I would like specifically to be able to program it to bring the heat up in the morning so its warm when we get up without heating all night to that level.

I just installed a Honeywell residential t-stat to the furnace on my 297RSTS. It is a very straightforward change on the furnace side. The AC side would be a bigger challenge because of the custom t-stat interface.

See sheet 3 of the drawing at the link below for details.

I thought the Dometic Thermostats were programmable.

Dometic are programmable, though not exactly feature risk.

Example: our home thermostat allows the temperature set point to be temporarily changed with no impact to the program. Can’t make a temporary change to the Dometic, you have to disable the program.

Home: thermostat set to cut back to 60 at 11pm. Decide to go to bed early, I can simply set the thermostat to whatever I choose and at 11pm the thermostat changes to 60.

Dometic: in the same scenario, I either have to change or turn off the program.

The one I have is not. You can only set the temperature.

Interesting thought klenger, but I would like it to run both the AC and furnace. I did some looking online and it looks like I could maybe replace the controller in the AC unit with an old analog one, but I would need to pull a new thermostat wire down from the AC and find an analog controller. Its a shame they went this route, I really think its a downgrade. The old analog thermostats were worthless, but at least they were a standard connection and easy to change. This forces you to use their parts, and they do not even offer what would be a basic residential thermostat as an option.

This post is rather timely. I'm currently working on an electrical problem in my unit and had the thermostat pulled away from the wall. I find it interesting that GDRV ran a 7-wire bundle to the thermostat and clipped four of the wires. So the existing thermostat controls the main AC, Furnace, and Fan Speed with only three wires! Maybe there are some HVAC knowledgeable folks on here who can explain how this system works. Also, I wonder if the other four wires are connected to anything for future use like a programmable thermostat?

It may not work like a conventional thermostat (open/closed contacts), but rather just communicate with the unit.

It is a digital communications signal between the thermostat and the controller in the AC unit. One wire is 12v+, one is 12v-, and one is comm. Then the controller in the AC splits out the signal and triggers the AC or furnace as needed. Thats how we can get error codes on the thermostat now, its all sent over the comm. Interesting yours has the extra wires, mine just has three run to it. If I had the extra wires it would make retrofitting something else in easier for sure...
