    Plastic Toilet?

    Hi All!

We took delivery of our 2910BH two weeks ago. So far, so good (mostly).

We ordered in February and I swear I remember the toilet being porcelain in both examples of the 2910BH we toured. I checked several review videos on youtube and they all do the "tap test" on the toilet and it's porcelain. The first time I sat on the thing I realized it was plastic due to the irritating creaking sound it makes. I understand there are some toilet models which contain both plastic and porcelain but ours is entirely plastic. One of the decision-making criteria we used in making a purchase is I didn't want a plastic toilet.

I have to admit I feel like we got bait-and-switched.

So what is your advise before we reach out to the dealer and/or Grand Design? Anyone else suddenly find plastic toilets in their new Imagines?

    Thanks in advance.

This could be due to a shortage of parts caused by Covid. I'd call GD and see.

You probably wont get anywhere calling GD, all parts are subject to change and availability. If it really bothers you, get a Dometic 320, they are more user friendly for gasket replacements anyway, and have a better toilet spray pattern.

I thought that used to be listed as a feature, but didn’t see it on the Grand Design site just now. Unless you can show they said it came with porcelain, not much that they have to do. But it cannot hurt to politely call them and ask about it - they are usually good about customer satisfaction. The Dometic mentioned above is also a good option, and could be your first of many upgrades.

The toilet seat is plastic, but the bowl is ceramic. Is that what you mean?

Nope, I mean the *entire* toilet is plastic. There's no ceramic anywhere.

We used to have a 5th wheel that came with a plastic toilet. It creaked so bad it would wake up the neighbors! We bought a Dometic 320 to replace it. https://amzn.to/3clanu8

The creaking is real! My wife is not a big person (at all) and it wakes me up every time she sits on it. I've been eyeing the 320. Have installed several residential toilets so I'm not afraid to turn a wrench but never messed much with RV stuff. Did you do the swap yourself?

I did do the swap myself. It took all of 20 minutes. Make sure the water is off, remove the water line, take the two flange nuts off, remove toilet. Make sure the new toilet gasket is in place, put new toilet on the flange, put nuts on, tighten, attach water line, have a beer.

Note: Not knowing how much room you have for a different toilet to fit so the seat stays up, measure where the flange is on the floor and check with whatever toilet you want to buy beforehand to make sure you have the room. Most provide a diagram of the space needed. The Dometic 320 fit for me but just barely!
