    Where Will You Be?

5/23 to 5/26 - Las Vegas RV Resort
5/27 to 5/29 - Valley of Fire State Park, NV if my luck hold out. Otherwise I'll have to find another spot.

    5/22 - 5/24 - Kamp Komfort RV Park & Campground, Carlock, IL
    5/24 - 5/27 - D & W Lake Camping and RV Park, Champaign, IL
5/27 - 5/31 - Whitaker Campground Camp Atterbury, Edinburgh, IN (military FamCamp south of Indianapolis)

None of these places are places we "want" to go - they're just between Utah (spring trip to meet friends) and Maryland (to spend time near grandkids). Camp Atterbury happens to be a safe place to land over the Memorial Day weekend since our timing put us near Indianapolis at that time and other parks/campgrounds will be packed. I think they have a little car race there or something...

We spent a week on the lake side a few years ago...we loved being on the lake for a week. Keep watching for a cancellation it's worth the the effort.

I always describe this situation to younger folks as a teeter-totter. On one end are youth, health, stamina, family... and, of course, work; on the other end are retirement and leisure time... and age, declining health, the complexities of arranging health care while traveling, etc., etc., etc. Everything is a trade-off. As I turned 40 I wasn't being very graceful about it. My late wife said that ageing beat the alternative...

Oh yeah, I know, it is what it is. Having a 8 and 5 year old, I have a lot of work ahead of me. But I wouldn't trade those two for anything!

Just plotted (well lets say I'm still trying to figure out RVTW) our first major trip since 1999 - that was with 5 children and this will be just the two of us. First long trip in the new wheels for a May 28 wedding (taking delivery 4/2 and plan a couple of shakedown weekend trips):
    Depart NH 5/17
    Dayton, OH 5/19-5/21
    KC 5/22-5/24
Sioux Falls, SD 5/25-5/31 (Lake Vermillion if we can get in and many thanks to @Canyonlight)
    Whittington, IL 6/2-6/4
Somewhere near Carthage,NC to visit daughter and husband 6/6-6/12
    Back home 6/15

Many overnights in between with a selection of KOAs, Harvest Hosts, independents, etc. Figuring 250-300 miles per day. Toughest part of the trip will be return from NC. There is very little along the 84 route through CT avoiding NYC/NJ.

Then back to Rapid City for a Sep 4th wedding.

John & Robin - SD State Parks launched a new site a few weeks ago. It covers not only camping reservations but hunting/fishing licenses and more. Here is the link. https://gooutdoorssouthdakota.com/ This new site has more functionality but the process to set up and account and make a reservation is more time consuming. Like most things though, over time and use it will be second nature.

SD state Parks have a 90 day window (1 year for Custer State Park in the Black Hills) for starting to make a reservation. For your end of May dates you can (and I suggest you consider this given the extreme growth in outdoors activities/camping/etc.) reserving your Lake Vermillion site at the end of Feb. There is a 90 window calendar on the site so you can determine the exact day when you can begin a reservation for the arrival date.

Let me know if I can help in any way.

Here are a some pictures of our site we had at LV in July of 20 east loop right next to the lake and cabins.

Thank Dan - I was on the old web site and on the phone and they were very nice. New web site is different so I'll play around a bit. Feb 24th 7am central is first I can reserve. Pics are great. Site 46 maybe? Have to look at reservations for all the other stops. This is a non-trivial exercise!!!
