Rear Ladder Extension
I'm looking for an extension for the rear ladder. The ladder is of little use if the first step is 4' off the ground.
I prefer one that attaches permanently and would swing down when needed.
So far, the Stromberg Carlson one looks like the ticket. Just wondering if there is something better out there. What are you guys using?
I have one of the telescoping ladders that extend to 12', but that sucker is way to heavy to deal with and I'm looking for an excuse to get rid of it.Last edited by BobLandry; 05-17-2021 at 08:19 AM.

I don't think they're the solution you're looking for, but I alternate between a milk crate (lives in the back of the truck) and a collapsible step stool we keep for reaching stuff on the inside.

I'm with Rob. For the very infrequent times I need to get on the roof I just use my collapsible step stool.

I have a short 4' step ladder that stays in the truck, and it's perfect for getting onto the ladder.

What I would like to find is an attachment for the top to extend the height so I don't haft to crawl on the roof. Something that could swing up in place.

I use a plastic step stool that we picked up at IKEA. It’s about a foot high, and gets you just high enough to reach that first rung. I keep it in the front basement storage compartment. It sits right over the BBQ, which doesn’t see as much use as the step stool, so it works out just fine.

I use a step ladder with two steps. I use it to reach the hitch handle in the truck bed and use it to get on the rear ladder.

I haven't had much of a reason to get to the roof during travel, but I have a collapsible ladder that also folds into a step ladder. Wife uses it for washing windows and hanging ornaments. When it's out I make a point to use it to access the rear ladder and go up to do a visual inspection to be sure things are OK. Other than that I'm only up there to put the cover on at the end of the season or to wash the roof.

I use a small folding step ladder. Two steps and the top is a platform step (so 3 steps if you count that), and it fits in the side storage locker. Great fit for the attached ladder and it is easy to move making it useful for other things.
