    rebuilt inside cabinets by sofa

Either side of our couch has srorage cabinets. We put a few photo
albums in them....well, they are not reinforced at all in the center.

The one i was able to add some reinforcement in center and put back
together. Also noticed the wiring for the rear lights go through here
and not insulated. So 1st one i just added some foam.

2nd cabinet was a complete fix and reinforcement. Also added
insulation. Here is what i found and my steps...

Good job! I did something similar. I hinged the tops so we could store stuff in there. Here are some photos....

Traveldawg: I like what you did with the hinges on these cabinet tops. One question: how did you get the tops off? I am guessing they are glued and will require some aggressive pulling. Do you have any tricks?

I had to pull the sofa away from the back wall and the side "tables". But it's just a few screws.

Then you can easily pull off the thin luan panel on the side of the table and you'll see the frame work.

It's pretty straight forward from there. I believe the top was stapled to some 3/4" x 3/4" wood strips on the front, back and rear.

It's so open in there you could do just about anything you want as far as the interior.

For mounting the hinge I replaced the 3/4" strip on the wall with a 1" x 2" piece of pine cut to the right length.

I'm glad you liked the mod. Let me know if you need more info.
