Propane on or off

Just curious as to what the general consensus is. Strictly to keep the Refrigerator cold....should we travel with the propane on or off going down the road between destinations? Your thoughts are much appreciated!

I always travel with it on. Some tunnels and ferries could be an issue.

BTW - you can create a signature block with your RV and tow vehicle information (see mine below). That way you won't have to repeat that information whenever you post or ask a question. You can create a signature by going to:

Forum Actions (on menu bar) -> Edit Profile -> Edit Signature (under My Settings on the left)

Oh no not this discussion again. Lol just kidding. Like @Second Chance said, this has been discussed many times and you'll get many differences in opinions. I for one do travel with the fridge on lp.

I never really thought about it. I usually try to leave it on for travel to keep fridge working. But, on a recent short trip (45 min to hour) up to nearby lake, the fridge wouldn’t light, and I was shocked at how much the fridge warms up without energy, based on Thermoworks thermometers hanging in fridge and freezer.

The freezer stayed good, very well under even 10° but the fridge climbs to 45+ surprisingly easy. The fridge wasn’t recently packed either. I know that does make a spike on its own.

My dealer walkthrough 1 camper ago was leave it on for trip out, off for trip back (presumably with no food).

I do have strong memories of being forced to stop before entering the Chesapeake tunnel to verify LP is off. That much, I’m glad to do. What I hated was pulling off into heavy traffic with ZERO acceleration lane.

We've driven with ours on for the 15 years or so we've been RV'ing. When I drove a gasser I would shut it off before pulling up to a gasoline pump, and for tunnels which require it (I also wish they would have an accel/merge lane!).
