Basement Mod to store camping chairs on the ceiling.

So, I'm prepping for a two week trip in my 320MKS with the wife, daughter and one of my daughter's friends. We have 4 camping chairs, and my wife's Zero Gravity Recliner chair. That takes up a ton of room in the basement. I used self tapping screws and 4 D-ring tie down hooks with two cargo straps to secure then to the ceiling.

Hindsight being 20/20, I didn't think about having to crawl into the basement to tighten the inside strap until I started to tighten everything up... Oh well! Oh, this cost me 30 bucks at Lowe's. See the pictures below!

I've been wanting to do something similar to hang a 4' aluminum stepladder out of the way. Thanks for posting.

Question for anyone that has done this...Is there any concern with weakening the structure of the floor framing by drilling crews into it? I wouldn't think hanging 20 lbs or so would be an issue....but whenever I think that way it usually goes south fast .

Structurally, the aluminum joists for the floor of the bedroom (and the ceiling of the basement), are fully boxed. So drilling a few holes into them won't weaken them significantly enough to cause failure. Cutting a chunk out of it, could weaken it enough for failure. The flooring (and other stuff) of the bedroom is screwed to the joists.

    Basement storage rack

I used aluminum angle tracks in my basement to hold, sway bars, slide stabilizers and manual crank. I put vinyl tubing on the corners for protection. I bolted it thru the aluminum supports.
It would definitely hold chairs or a ladder. It’s easy to get to, nothing slides and it frees up space underneath.
Hope this helps. Click image for larger version.

I looked at doing that and the cost was almost twice what I paid for the system I "settled" on. Gotta keep the wife happy, not spending every penny on the camper... I'm perfectly fine with that, but... Happy wife, happy life!

So this is a pretty handy idea! Hindsight being what it is, could you just rotate the position of your straps so they're anchored towards the center of the basement and you have the tightening end towards the front...??? So rather than the straps being oriented front to back, they'd be sideways.

That is true, but then you need to crawl into the basement to load the chairs... I crashed into the basement the first time to tighten the back strap, then all the other times, I just loosened and tightened the front one

I approached it a different way and built a shelf for the chairs.
