30 amp or 50 amp ext??
Evening all, need to pick up an extension, my unit is 50 amp but, will the only time I really need 50 amp coverage is when primary AC (50 amp) is running, or both my 50 AND 30?
Just thinking of space and manageability of a 30 amp cord......but, if I'm buying an ext, buy the 50 and not think about it again???
Thanks guysMsgt Ray (Ret) and Margie Parker

We started out with a 50-amp extension and, after not using it for the first nine months or so, traded it to someone for a 30-amp extension. The next several times we needed an extension it was hot and we needed both ACs... had to repurchase a 50-amp extension all over again. My advice would be to just the the 50-amp and work out a place to carry it (ours is in the front compartment with the batteries and air compressor, etc.).

You're going to receive an abundance of answers both ways! If you only have 1 A/C, it's easy to get by with a 30A. If only buying one, 50A makes it so you never think about it again.

I recently started a similar thread. All responses had valid points. My decision was to buy a 50 amp 15 foot extension. My decision factors were 1) cost and 2) power needs. 50 amp cords longer than 15 feet get pricey. I am in Florida and diuring the summer would run both ACs so I need that capability here in the south.
Someone did mention in my thread that if the power post is that far away then it will most likely only have 30 amp service so no need for a 50 amp extension. That reasoning made the most since.
Bottom line I didn't want to spend a bunch of money for something may use only once a year if at all. If the power source location is that wacky I think I might go find another spot or park.Mike & Lisa
