    Warranty question

So I’m getting ready to trade my 311 BHS in for a solitude S class 3550BH. I’m traveling out of state to get it, but I have been finding out that my local dealers, to include grand design authorized dealers, will not submit for warranty repairs because they are inundated with work. They have said if I pay cash they will do the work, at some point, but do not have the time or resources to submit warranty paperwork for non-customers.

I tried calling Grand Design to ask what I would do but of course they are closed.

Has anyone ran into this? I’m assuming I would get authorization from grand design and then take it somewhere to get it fixed and then get reimbursed….I hope.

    Thanks

    Warranty question

Why are you worrying about warranty work?

    Buy local if concerned

Grand Design is good about taking are of their customers. They will pay an independent shop to work on your trailer. Shops like doing GD work because they get paid right away. You will have to pay the service charge though. One other thing is GD will not pay camping world. A lot of owners prefer going to the independent shop because they believe they get better and faster service. Well worth paying the service fee.

Grand Design is open, i have talked to them several times recently. We were on a 10 month road trip when our warranty was going to expire. So I called GD and gave them the list of problems, to include the roof peeling off. They gave me authorization numbers to give our dealer when we get back to get the work done. So we made an appointment for the first of April and in the last two and a half months the dealer hasn't even looked at it yet. And it's supposed to be the largest dealer in America. I guess there focus is on sales.
GD will allow mobile tech's to work on the coach, but will only pay what they feel is reasonable. The way we found that out was we had a water leak in the sub floor above one of the black tanks while we were in Colorado for a couple of months. And the only mobile tech in Breckenridge charged GD and we still had to come up with just over $1,500.

That's the first time I have heard of anyone having to pay out of pocket other than the service charge when using an independent repair shop under warranty.

I was quit shocked when I got the bill. I thought GD would cover it, less the show up charge. When I called GD I was informed they only pay what they feel is a reasonable repair cost. I was warned buy other campers that the only mobile tech guy that works in Breckenridge was very expensive. GD payed about $1,000 dollars and I got the rest.

I have, on two occasions, paid for warranty work out of pocket. One was a local non GD dealer and the other a mobile tech that GD covered for a set time and parts which covered everything. I contacted the CS rep and had prior approval then reimbursed when I submitted the invoices.
