    Congrats!
I retired 3 times in the last 20 years, the last time 3 years ago, but still doing a little piece work now and then.

My older brother gave some advice:
    Have a plan.
And RELAX, and follow the plan.
It's working out actually a little better than expected.
We are coming up on our 1st camping anniversary in July, But as all plans go camping was not into but we sold the boat and got started in camping.

We like it better more "Relaxing"

Congratulations 17George! I'm envious. Are you going full-time now (or are you already FT)?

LOL, I got to retire young, wife needed another 7 years to reach her retirement. After 3 months of her getting up early to go to work while I sat in my jamies and had another cup of coffee she got really annoyed with me. We had one of those earnest marital discussions. Did some mathematics, did some long term goal assessments, did some end of life planning, talked to the kids (they had all moved out of state), thought about life in general. Did some more mathematics. End result, she just up and quit her job, we sold the house, bought the RV and hit the road.

We had to make many adjustments to live within our new restricted budget. But we have been working it for a while. Another year and a half she will get to collect SS and we will get a raise, but that is all going into end of life expenses. It's a plan.

Congrats! I retired 4 years ago. I love waking up and saying "What am I going to do today?" followed by "Anything I want!"

Congratulations, it's a major step in life. It's a little scary too. When I retired I worked diligently on the sticks and bricks projects that I had put off for years. About 3 months into it I realized I was highly stressed, anxious, not sleeping well. I fretted about it for a few days, then realized that it's the first time since I was 8 years old that I had not worked. A few times in my life I was between work, and bad things loomed on the horizon. But then I went back to work and all was fine. But the thought of never going to work again scared the crap out of me.

By the time my third post retirement income statement came in I had settled down. But it was touch and go for a few days. I almost went back to work.

Nowadays I still work. And mostly the jobs don't pay very well. But the difference is I get to choose what I do and when I do it. If I don't like it I simply walk away. What jobs do I do? Mostly volunteer work at state parks, we camphost, mow, trail maintenance, welcome center, kayak guide, etc. When we winter we work at a ski resort, I am a greeter. I work 3 half days and get a free ski pass and $13.50 an hour. Almost enough to pay the heating bill in the RV.

Welcome to the life of a retiree....
