tongue weight and sway bar maximum

I went to a CAT scale and finally figured out whether my Ram 2500 could legally tow my Reflection 315 RLTS TT. It's legal, but my tongue weight and the rated capacity of the Equalizer hitch bars are exactly the same - 1400 pounds. I'm going to add a washer or two on the hitch and shift some more weight, but still likely to be close. I have no idea how much, if any, +/- there is built into the rating of the hitch bars. Ideas? Or should I just cough up the cash for a new hitch? If so, are 2000 pound bars too much?

    Are you having an issue?

The only purpose of the bars is to restore the weight back to the steers

What are the loaded vs unloaded weights on the front axle?

No issues. Pulls great. Steer axle unloaded is 5080# and 4780# with trailer and bars engaged.

Some more transfer would be good. Add the washers and try it out
    Only way to know
Bigger bars would definitely transfer easier

With the Equalizer unfortunately not. They say the head is different. I had the same issue with the same trailer, but different truck. Sold my Equalizer with 1400lb bars and went to mew Equalizer with 1600lb bars. Lots of folks here use Blue Ox with 2k bars on this trailer.

My 2500 is 5100# unloaded and 4880# with the bars engaged. Mine pulls a 2600 RB fine and I'm leaving it as is.
I am also at the upper limit of an equalizer and 1000# bars.

Did you ever add washers and did it help? I am in the process of buying the 315 and have a Ram 3500. The dealer is advising me to go with the 12000 equalizer hitch. I saw your post and I am concerned that the 12000 equalizer hitch won't be enough.

Haven't added the washers yet because it'll be a few weeks before I can get back to the CAT scale. However, I wouldn't have any confidence in getting a 12000/1200 hitch. I feel OK with the 14000/1400, but if I had it to do over I wouldn't go lower that 15000/1500. Going higher means a really heavy hitch and I'm getting too old for that mess!!
