    First long trip!

Well fellow rv’ers, I just finished the trip from Jacksonville, FL to Frederick, MD. All went uneventful. Towed with a Chevy half ton at a steady 65 mph, with the occasional burst to 66! No sway problems and no big truck problems. I’ll venture to say, staying at 65mph it made it pleasurable. Next week going to the Kentuckies...

    Which Imagine do you have?

    Happy camping.

I have a 2400bh. To me it was odd there was minimal wind during the 700 miles trip.

Curious to know what year and model your Chevolet is, what kinda mpgs are you getting traveling at 65 mph. Do you keep it in drive or do you limit it to a particular gear( maybe 4th?) and at what rpm's???

Its a 2020 with a 9600 lb tow limit, 1900 lb payload. This was my first time towing outside of 10 miles. Actually, the second time towing the rv. Fuel tank size is 24 gallons, which should be a crime, and the range was under 200 miles, closer to 175 actually. The underpowered engine came evident climbing the Va and Md hillsides. Don’t know which gear, just had it in tow mode, but I kept monitoring the trans temp and it went up to 280 during the steep hills.

175 for a 24 gallon tank would put you at 7.2 MPG. Thats actually really really good!!! I didn't even come close to that on my 2015 silverado 1500. It was equipped with a 5.3L but I think it was a 26 gal tank. Do you know what engine yours has? 280 Seems really high, to the point of transmission damage.

I was dry camping, very dry camping no web connection. I am concerned with the transmission temps, but will have to wait until I get home in two weeks to address it. Maybe with a 2500 replacement

We have a 2800BH that we pull with a 2017 F-150 with the V8. We just went from CO to SD and back and the tranny never went over 208. Some decent hills but probably not like you were going over.

If your truck allows it, lock out some of the higher gears to keep the rpm's higher, especially in the hills

All done, went from Jacksonville to Hagerstown, MD then to Pelham, AL returning to Jax. The transmission stayed at 190 while traveling at 60 mph. Whenever I went over 65 it would start creeping up. About the gear suggestion... how I do that? I’m new to this whole experience, even the truck thing. It must be a Canadian truck, where 100kmh (60 mph) is the sweet spot
