16K vs. 20K CURT fifth-wheel Hitch
Newbie here, We are having trouble obtaining a 20K Curt fifth wheel hitch. Can only locate 16K.
Our rig GVWR is 9500 lbs. Is the 16K doable for towing? TksHubby & I call home the state of Maine. Our rig, 2019 Reflection
230RL fifth-wheel. Towed by, 2013 GMC, 2500 HD short bed.

A 16K hitch is WAY more than enough for a trailer with a 9,500 lb. GVWR. A 20K would be expensive overkill.

I was advised by the local shop to get the 20K as it was only a few dollars more. If you have a turning point and plan on using it do not get the Q version Curt hitch.

16K vs. 20K CURT fifth-wheel Hitch
I use a Curt A-16 hitch with my 311BHS (GVWR 13,995lbs) with no issues. Love the hitch. Easy to ensure it is locked. Also comes apart in two pieces with the removal of a pin and easy to lift out of the truck. I have a Reese Airborne Sidewinder King Pin. Needed to buy the correct wedge for the Curt hitch.

Good to know since you have a much higher GVWR than we do. Have been on Curt website, its very good. Seems the Q hitch addresses noise, chucking issues.
The A hitch seems the more popular choice. As poster TimKoenig mentioned, use of the "turning point" feature not recommended with the Q. Tks for reply,

We do have the turning point but don't plan to use it. Thanks for input. The 20K offers more stability, as I understand, over the 16K. Even though the 16K is rated to

I'm pulling a 268BH using the Curt A16 with no issues. I opted not to use the Turning Point just because I wanted the turning point above the axle. It's just me. Plus, I wasn't impressed with what was required for annual maintenance on the Turning Point. I also added the slider to the A16.I was too close to the cab with a 90 degree turn and if I had to do one on a non-level surface, I was afraid I would hit. To me it was cheap insurance for peace of mind.

As long as any hitch is used as designed, I fail to see a durability difference between different size hitches from the same manufacturer.
