    Black Tank Reading

    Greetings
I think I have found a simple way to clear the sensors in the black tank that always have read 3 or 4 dots all the time. I filled tank about 1/2 full & added about 4 ounces of Dawn liiquid soap. I then dropped in one packet of the usual toilet chemical. We drove about 70 miles to our next RV stop giving it a good slosh. Then emptied tank and we had a 1 reading on our control panel. I can't remember the last time we had this reading, but it seemed like a simple fix and I hope other GDers find it helpful

I have also heard that dumping your ice from the ice maker into the toilet when you travel helps break up the contents in the tank.

    Have not tried this yet.

    Any thoughts?

Your method is very similar to the Geo Method that many of us use.
Here's a good short article that includes a recipe. https://kleentank.com/the-geo-method/

We use the geo method and I flush our black tank after each trip which has been pretty reliable in keeping the BT gauge accurate

Be very careful putting ice in your toilet. I did this for the reason you stated in a Dometic toilet and ended up stripping away the rubber O ring that seals the toilet against the valve that opens when you flush. We couldn't figure out why after awhile things started to get a bit smelly....Easy enough to fix, but not while in Death Valley.

I take it this Geo solution takes the place of the stuff one puts in the black tank to keep the stuff from hardening etc?

Ice never worked in previous RVs we owned.

    Geo method DOES work.

Yes, you only need the Geo.

Just to be clear, we don't Geo every time we travel. Just when the tank reading does not show empty when it is empty.

We use Happy Camper with our tank for normal maintenance.
