Just curious....how much water do you use to flush the black tank? I just flush for about 30 seconds, then dump, then flush, then dump, until the water looks to be pretty clear. Is there a better way? Thanks!

    You are correct.

If you want to see how effective rinsing is with the valve open, just open the valve and run the black tank rinse until the water runs "clear" (no solids). Now close the valve and add 20 gallons of water then open the valve. You'll see how much stuff was left in the tank by keeping the valve open during rinsing.

I add at least 10 gallons (with the valve closed) which takes way longer than 30 seconds.

Honestly, I haven't kept track of the amount of water. I just let it flush until the water runs clear.

I fill 2 28 gallon waste tanks to empty the black tank then run the rinser until I fill another 28 gallon tank

I use a black colored flow meter on the black tank line and a green colored one like in the link for fresh water.

I have never ran the black tank flush with it closed because of this pic. But everyone is saying it is okay to do as long as you don't overfill? It won't pressurize and come up through the toilet?Click image for larger version.

That's a CYA label. It's easy to get distracted with the flush on and valve close and then....[emoji90][emoji90][emoji90]
I do it to properly clean the tank but if ever I forget then it's on me. Not literary I hope.

The black tank is vented. You will only have a problem with the black tank if you close the valve then start the rinser and leave it rinsing until the tank fills up and stuff eventually comes out of the vent pipe on the roof.

Why does filling the fresh water tank to overflow (which I do) not result in the same consequence?
I was wonder that myself. Apparently there is no safety factors engineered into these things and are subject to failure even before reaching the intended load. I'm beginning to understand why RV veterans are jumping up and down, warning of catastrophic failure if a tow vehicle load even approaches the "door sticker" capacities.
