RE: Hot Water Tank Heating Issue

    Hot Water Tank Heating -

Hi! I just bought a 2021 Grand design Reflection 315RLTS. I am reading conflicting information in the brochures regarding my Hot Water Tank.
Am I reading this book incorrectly, it seems my hot water can only be heated by gas, not electric.
Can someone confirm or deny this information and correct me. I need guidance in the correct direction.

FYI - I have a thermostat on the wall in the bathroom so I can set the hot water temperature for propane heating.
Outside at hot water tank, below purge valve is a switch. If it is on then the thermostat inside works and I get hot water using gas, if it is off, plugged into AC at the campground, I only get cold water.

My other travel trailer switch was on for electric and off for gas. Am I missing something? I have slots on my indoor control panel which are labeled water heater (labeled gas & electric) but they are blank plates, not switches.
I appreciate any advice or help offered anyone can offer.

    Thank-you in advance
    Ken

Read the manual carefully for the on-demand/tankless water heater. They are a completely animal than the 6-gallon water heaters that used to come in the Reflections. They operate differently and have different needs in order to protect them in sub-freezing weather. @NB Canada is correct - the new on-demand water heaters are propane only.

OK! Thank-you both. I did read information on hot water tank (gas) but thought I was missing something because the booklet states differently. It refers, obviously, to the old 6 gallon water tank being able to use electric and gas (propane).

I guess I will reread the separate pages on gas hot water heater a little closer, especially were I am not familiar with tankless version.

    Thanks again,
    Safe Travels

I have the same year & model trailer and my h.w.h. has selectable heating by gas or electric via switches on the control panel above the thermostat for the living room. You may be just reading boilerplate information in the manual that doesn't apply; might check your control panel for h.w.h.switches.

Newer production versions use on demand LP water heaters. No electric heating.

I didn't realize until you posted this picture that you can control the temp on the new on demand tankless water heater.

Yes, that is one plus (adjusting temp) but I'd rather use the campgrounds electricity rather than my propane.
Old campers, you'd just adjust the valves, hot down, cold up. LOL!!!

This wasn't a feature I was looking closely at prior to buying. Oh well, I'll survive and live with it.
