    Charlottesville, VA

Planning on a trip to Charlottesville around the end of September. Doing some basic search on campgrounds and do not see that many. Charlottesville KOA and Misty mountain seem to be about it? Anyone know of others...city, county, state, military parks etc?

Do you need to be in Charlottesville? There's a place in Waynesboro we stayed at a couple of years ago. Waynesboro North 340. Enjoyed the campground more than we enjoyed the National Park. There's also a KOA south of Charlottesville.

You may already know about this tool:

    https://www.rvparky.com/

... but you are correct, there is a dirth of places to stay in the Charlottesville, VA, area. We ended up staying at the KOA rather than drive a longer distance.

I was sort of leaning toward them. Spotty on the reviews though, what was your thoughts on the place?

I keep a spreadsheet log (252 stays at this point - though several of them at the same places) and I make notes if there's something really good or really bad about a place. I didn't make any notes on the Charlottesville KOA. I remember it as being a bit on the older side and not over-large sites. That said, there was enough room for a 36' fifth wheel, a long-bed crew cab DRW truck, and our car (tucked in to the side) and the people were nice. The campground is heavily wooded and pretty. Either the GPS was off or I missed a sign, but I had to continue a mile or two down the road to find a place to turn around and come back. Again - beautiful countryside.

We stayed at the Charlottesville KOA earlier this year (right in the middle of the gas pipeline issue). It was a nice campground. The sites were average size as said above. It looked like they were doing improvements to some of the sites, adding new gravel and such. The people that ran it were real nice as well. There was one camper who left a dog tied up outside barking and they quietly and quickly put a stop to it. We met friends there and they gave us buddy sites which was nice. Aside from having issues getting fuel (which was not their fault) we liked the campground and had a great time there. I would not hesitate to go back.
