Ohio Rocky Fork State Park

For all you Ohioan's and points there about, we just stayed at Rocky Fork SP in Hillsboro, Cincinnati area. Very nice SP, sites are top notch, beautiful lake. Take full advantage of the Amish country markets in the area. The sweat corn was delicious, and the bakery - can't do it justice with words but be prepared these markets are cash only or sometimes they will take written checks. We stayed a week on site 9, full hook up, great site.

Also a few miles from the SP is the area known as 7 Caves in Bainbridge, it used to be in private hands but is now apart of a Seven Caves Nature Preserve, wonderful hiking trails.

Ohio has done it right with their State Park web sites. When making your reservations you can click on the site number and a picture will come up showing your site before you even get there. Many States are going to this kind of reservation system, makes it really nice. We booked reservations at another Ohio SP called East Fork, we will be staying there 10 days on our way to Escapee's Raccoon Valley Knoxville TN

Thanks for the recommendation, we will be heading that way later this year and will try site 9 if possible.

Try to pick a site on the upper level (on the hill) or lower level nearer to the campground office/store next to the lake. Some area sites farther away from the office are frequented by the Canadian Geese that make a mess everywhere.

If you're in the area try the "Country Crust Bakery" 4918 St. RT 41-South Bainbridge Oh. Fresh pretzel bun sandwiches, (reuben cornbeef with fresh sauerkraut is fantastic)!
Amish noodles, Blackberry, Strawberry/Rhubarb, Apple or other various fry pies, cookies of all kinds, cream horns and fresh donuts. The only other place I have seen shooFly pie like Mom used to make (made with Molasses and all things sweat).

Just down the road "JR's General Store" with all kinds of Amish fresh farm vegetables, tomatoes and onions bigger than softballs and taste like sunshine itself, and a deli meat and cheese counter fresh sliced that's unbelievable! The honey maple shaved ham is a favorite! When was the last time you saw fresh braunschweiger, they have it!

Within 5 miles of the Rocky Fork campground is Hillsboro, nice little town with a WalMart and Krogers, Lowe's, Tractor Supply (Propane) and a Rural King and various modern restaurants. Great place to spend a week or two!

Thanks for sharing! Looks like a really nice park at the base of the hills. We will be heading from Florida to Harrison Lake State Park in Fayette, OH next week. We will camp there and our daughter is driving down from Central Michigan to meet us. i will definitely put this one on our list of CGs. We do travel North quite often and are always looking for GOOD state parks.

The nearby Fort Hill Earthworks & Nature Preserve looks like some nice hiking trails.
