Actually, I'm surprised Canada started lifting restrictions. I'm in favour of them being lifted, just thought the USA would move first.

I was surprised too but with the election campaigning starting is it really a surprise?

That is all good but, you may be randomly selected for a COVID test at the border. If you test positive, you must have to have a quarantine plan in place and stay put for 14 days and they will monitor your location. SO, just beware that it could really railroad your vacation. I really want to go but..... And, we don't know yet what the U.S. wants out of us when we return back to the states. Stay tuned I guess.
That's what we are hearing too....although the locals here are betting that it won't happen. We're enjoying ourselves in Eastport and had planned to head for PEI but just too much up in the air. Last year PEI just closed the bridge...maybe next year.

I don't know whats taking so long. The U.S. southern border has been wide open for 6 months now, no covid testing or passport required.

The restrictions are still in place until Aug 21 due to uptic in numbers in the states from all I have read.
Restriction is for both northern and southern borders.

Please remember to leave politics out, even the mention of elections can fuel the conversation the wrong way.

For those of you in the northern border states, do you get the feeling the border will open to vaccinated Canadians anytime soon? Or is it months off yet?
Was looking forward to visiting the USA in the late summer/fall and just wondering if it's realistic thinking.

It's such a hard call to make when it will open. With the Delta variant making it's way around the country it could delay things. It seems here in Mi the spread of that is heavier in northern Mi for the moment. That can change fast.

I have a couple of good friends who haven't seen their kids or Grand kids since all this started. He's Canadian she's American living in Mi helping care for her elderly Mom.

He could have pushed too cross because he still has Canadian health care but then would have had to quarrentine with each crossing so they settled for video calls for now.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. It's nice to hear that the border may open up soon, but at this point I won't be at all surprised if they walk back the date given how fast infections are rising right now. Even in places with halfway decent vaccination rates, the exponential climb is pretty distinct. I guess we'll find out how that plays out over the next few weeks. I'm really enjoying the mask mandate being dropped, but I guess it's just a matter of time before it is reinstated. I really wish we could get past that for good, but that's probably just wishful thinking. Politics strikes again!
