Waiting on my 350G to arrive next month, it will have 8k axles with disc brakes so the gvwr bumps up to 18k from 16.8k. My 2020 F350 6.7 long bed has a 4200 payload. I am able to take a bit of weight off the pin with a toy in the back, which isn't the same for you. But you should be well within payload spec with the 380 you got if you're around 20% on the pin. I tow 13k now on a bumper pull with my F350 and it's a breeze and all within spec if. I'm going to be running a goosebox on the 350G and don't see myself more than 16.5-17k when all loaded up. I also have 4300 lb load tires and 4000 lb load rims so way more than what comes stock on them.

Well, I know now. I'm glad I didn't learn by going over the edge in a fiery crash after the brakes failed.
You need to engage the enhanced engine brake also. As mentioned above, you probably won't even need to touch the brakes when properly engaged and set in conjunction with tow/haul.

Correct. I was going up and down the mountains of West Virginia and the Maryland panhandle. With cruise control set at 65, I did not have to touch the brakes going down any hill. Engine brake would add compression first, and if the speed rose a few mph, then it would automatically downshift. Worked perfectly.

    Lots of good thought here

At your rigs length and weight I would consider nothing short of a Max payload DRW F350 or even better a F450 for the better turning radius. A SRW is not going to cut it no matter what the brand. You will also want the rear sway bar (must get camper package) Dont skimp on the truck.

Also as mentioned there should be a second sticker with the max cargo carrying capacity CCC listed - this is the important number.

Also I am very concerned your dealer did not tell or warn you your truck was not capable of towing what they sold you - criminal in my mind. You were grossly overloaded.

If it was me in this situation I would go for the F450. It actually capable of carrying much more than its sticker rating. Ford de-rated it to keep it in the F350 weight carrying class. I would order one too - get what you want.

I can see an F450 dually in my future. Thankfully, due to questionable financial priorities, I have an "unlimited" budget for vehicles.

That ^^^ would make me "pass go" and go directly to the F450 right now. I have F450 envy, but being retired, I'm not willing to make a change and go from my F350 Dually to the F450.....mostly because the F350 Dually was and is paid for when I bought it and I'm not over any of the weight capacities for the truck when towing my Momentum 394M......but I sure do like the F450s

Excellent decision and choice. They are had to find on the lot, but easy to order. 2022 have so great upgrades like the 12" productively screen and others. If you get the instant cab heat you automatically get the biggest alternator offered.

The best on your new quest

Since you own your trailer - load up truck and trailer they same you would for a trip and take it over the CAT scales. Then go back with just the truck. The difference on your trucks rear axle is the pin weight. There is a phone app that makes using the CAT scales a piece of cake. That takes guessing out of the equation.
Fwiw - My 2017 F350 Platinum 6.7L SRW had a payload capacity of 3,267# which is why I now have the F450 (daily driver - love it). Add about 900# for a gasser.

Needs to be a Dually (Higher Cargo Capacity)....we have a 2020 GD FL380 and when we picked up the RV in a 2019 SRW F350 Diesel, the RV pin weight was 400 lbs. over the Cargo capacity of the truck (~4,101 Lbs.). Had to switch to a F350 Dually with a cargo capacity rating of ~ 5,305 lbs. You need to consider pin weight plus fuel, tools, 5th wheel hitch, bodies, pets, etc. to make sure you are under the max cargo capacity.

We have an F250 Diesel and we pull our 373FB with it but we had to have air bags installed on the truck in order to do it. A much more affordable option than having to buy a whole new truck!!
