Columbus Georgia to I16 at Macon Us us 80 or 80/96

Need to get from Columbus Georgia to I16 south to Sataesboro GA. It looks like I can take US 80 the whole way and tie in at Macon, or bypass Macon and grab 96 east at Geneva (shortcut). However at Fort Valley 96 changes to what looks like a secondary road but does run straight across to I16 via 358 to Danville without going through Macon. How is 96 as far as a road goes, especially east of Fort Valley. What about the short stretch of 358? I'm pulling my 5th wheel.

    Thanks for any help

96 is not to bad for a two lane road. It does have some passing lanes but not much in way of fuel after leaving Ft. Valley/ Warner Robins area.
