Once you come down from the Vail Pass summit it's all gradual downhill beyond Vail. I've towed that route many times with different RVs including 2 fifth wheels and have enjoyed the drive and the boost in MPG. Just make sure I-70 thru Glenwood Canyon is not closed due to any flash flood debris from a heavy rain. Monsoon season should be over by then. Happy & safe travels.

I-70 through Glenwood Canyon is closed indefinitely due to major rockslide damage, both directions. Plan new route accordingly.

Ya i have been following the slides. Looking at going N on 9 out of Silverthorne up to 40 west, then over 40 to 13 South out of Craig back down to I-70 at Rifle. Anyone know this route?

With I-70 closed for a while, your best bet is likely to be US-285, US-24, US-50. If memory serves me correctly (and it rarely does), that is through Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Take you through Montrose and up to Grand Junction from the south. Try that.

Unfortunately, it's not the monsoon, it's the burn scar from last year's fire in that area. Kinda sucks because that was a beautiful area before the fire.
