Full-timing in 337RLS. Is the 12V battery needed?
We are about to full time in the 337RLS, obviously will be connected to shore power. Wondering if the 12V battery is needed, or if I can remove it.

The 12 volt battery is required by law if you tow the RV - it operates the electric brakes in case of a breakaway from the tow vehicle. "Obviously" is also not so obvious. Plenty of full-timers boondock and aren't always connected to shore power. By "full-timing," do you mean living in an RV in a park and not moving it?

Yeah, living in an RV park, using shore power. The reason I ask is because we smelled something, opened the battery compartment, and the battery was hot and smoking. Bone dry…my fault for not checking the water, but made me wonder if it was really needed if we weren’t towing.

Unsure of what type of fridge you have but if you lost power it would be nice to run the fridge ,water heater and furnace if needed and you need a battery for that
Something to think about

Full-timing in 337RLS. Is the 12V battery needed?
More specifically, in a pinch, as we were at 10:30 pm last night, could we remove the battery and just use shore power until getting a replacement battery (today)?
And when plugged into shore power long term, can we damage the battery by keeping it “on”?
