There's no downside to adding the CAT fluid or fork oil on the recommended list, other than the nominal cost.
If you sure you're a quart low I would add one of the aforementioned fluids.2016 CTD 2500

Make sure you have the recommended oil list; use can use the CAT fluid or a couple different fork oils; it doesn't make any difference. They all work. At the time I added the fluid to my system, the CAT fluid was on a nationwide backorder; nobody had it. I went with one of the recommend fork oils and that worked fine. I just went ahead and added 2 quarts right off the bat to be done with it. No issues since then.

I've been dealing with the common popping noises for awhile. As others have reported... the two fork oils on the recommended list by Lippert (Torco and Maxima) didn't solve the problem or solved it for a brief period. I speak from experience. The CAT fluid has worked so far but is $$. Don't waste your time trying to find it online just go to a CAT dealer and ask for Hydraulic Oil Additive Part# 624-3379. Note: the CAT fluid part number on the recommended list is out of date (Old# 1U-9891).

No problem here - local CAT dealer had 60+ quarts on hand. So far the only popping noise I've had is from the Schwintek bedroom slideout which was replaced under their TSB - no more popping now. But I did wonder about the viscosity of the anti-stiction fluid vs. the ATF from the factory. Put the slides in and out in the upper 20s and they were significantly slower.
