Enzymes vs chemicals
Thinking about using enzymes instead of chemicals for black and gray tanks, anybody have experience with them?
I understand it can be odorous during summer.
Thanks

I use "Walex BIO-11550 Bio-Pak Natural Holding Tank Deodorizer and Waste Digester" in my black tanks. I have used them for several years in several different rigs w/ good results. No smell and tanks rinse clean. I get them from Amazon

We tried the enzyme drops several times when we lived in Mississippi. When traveling/camping in the deep south during the summer months we found that the enzyme drops did not control odor very well. Did not like them. Went back to chemical drops and have never had an odor problem.

Haven't used anything for 3 years in either the black or grey tanks. I use the black tank rinse every time if possible. My wife even commented this weekend about how we haven't had any stinky tank issues for so long. Use plenty of water in the black and rinse when done.

Most of the "Chemical" treatments available for RV tanks are just Sodium Percarbonate with a little fragrance added. This is the same as Oxy Clean but 10X the cost.

In five years of traveling about 100 nights a year, I have never used any chemical additives in the black or grey tanks. There has been no odor or other unpleasantness coming from either. Following a long trip (or several short ones), I add about ten gallons of water and maybe 1/2 cup of Dawn to the black tank along with 1 or 2 bags of ice from the corner store. I drive around for about 20 minutes then stop at a local free dump station and drop the load followed by 10 minutes with the flusher running.
There is has been no smell, no clogs, no problems.
Safe Travels.
