Been there done that with chemicals. I precharge my black tank with 5 gallons of water and 1 cup DAWN dish soap. Never had a problem with keeping sensors clean or smell, The initial charge slicks up the inside of the tank to prevent pile build up. Some folks add the Calgon or a Tied pod to this, but I have found not usually needed.
