    2 a/c’s 1 soft start

I have 2 ac’s and I’m curious that if I put a soft start in the 15k unit can I use them both on 30 amp hookups or do I need to put the soft starts in both?
    Thanks.

You will probably need one on both. Softstart units stair step the amps up so is doesn't hit the power supply as hard. If both AC unit compressors kick in at the same time, you will probably trip the 30 amp breaker.

That’s what I was thinking also but the frugal side of me was hoping otherwise!

    Have a wonderful weekend.

We have 2 AC's. I have a soft start on the 15k. I have ran both on 30 amp but will be installing a second for the reasons previously mentioned.

If soft start reduces initial demand by 70% shouldn’t 30 amps be enough to run both? One with and one without soft start

I agree with your reasoning but know my reasoning is sometimes limited with electricity.

That demand is when the compressor kicks on, each and every time. If both compressors kick in at the same time, it will fault your generator. I have found the the RV Airflow mod reduced the need to run both AC units at the same time, once the coach was cooled down to less than 80° F.

If you are boondocking, hence the generator, I would seriously calculate your usage and see where you can cut power use. Just my two cents, adjusted for inflation.

We don’t have anything less than 30 amps shore power so we’re ok. [emoji41]

Soft Start advertises exactly that, but you need one in each ac unit.

I've installed an Easy Start in one of my (2) 15K A/Cs. Both of them draw close to 10 amps when running. With my amp meters I can see the Easy Start A/C gradually ramp up to the 10 amps in about 2 seconds. The standard one immediately goes to 10 amps. I run them both when connected to 30 amps when I first get to a site to cool the trailer down. I shut down the electric to the water heater and sometimes the lithium converter to stay under 30 amps. The chances of BOTH A/C units cycling ON at the same time isn't something to worry about. Additionally, Easy Start does not change the RUNNING amps, only the STARTING amps. After about 3 seconds the amp draw looks the same on both units.
