    Cabinet Stain Fading

We are starting to notice some fading on our cabinets on our 2018 303 RLS. I’ve search the forum without much luck at finding a way to refresh / polish / protect what we have.

Could someone point me to any ‘threads’ that might give me information on how to proceed.

    Thanks

How can wood stains fade in an RV. The way the windows are and the way the cabinets are positioned you'd have to have direct sunlight on the cabinets for really long periods of time. Are you sure it's not the finish being worn off?

This could maybe related to the cleaning product that you are using.

We found the stain on the island cabinet doors wipes off really easily if it gets wet. Could be that's what's happening.

On our rig the color isn't stain. It's a colored varnish that can come off fairly easily, especially on corners. The only fix so far are the furniture marker pens.

Not sure which color interior you have but for my Solitude darker interior I have found Varathane Jacobean to be a very close match. You can easily adjust the shade depending on how long you leave it on the wood before wiping off. Easily found at Home Depot, Lowe’s, etc.

I think some cabinets get shorted on some sort of sealer. Ours would wash off as well. I sealed the wood both doors and the head board with a hand rub of a mixture of bees wax and oil. I do this about 2 times a year and don't get any stain wiping off

My wife picked up some of the colored pens today from Home Depot. They worked very well, for a short-term fix. When we get back home, after the rally, I’ll probably put some additional finish on the tops of the doors that are beneath the sink Those seem the worst for the wear and water drips that they get.

I think the cabinet supplier used a lacquer over stain on the real wood finishes (some of the verticals and facing are plastic-wrapped) in your model year Reflection. We found the doors under sink in the kitchen island on our 2016 Reflection 337 didn't get any lacquer on the back side. If the fading is uneven, you'll need to strip the surface, re-stain, and reseal in order to avoid an uneven appearance. We were lucky enough to find someone who had already done the research and found a perfect Minwax stain match for the cabinets in our 2020 Solitude. If you can't find that information anywhere for your rig, remove a cabinet door and take it to wherever you would buy stain and match it.

You don't really have a "2108 Reflection 303RLS" do you? (Per your signature.)

Maybe the cabinets are different, but I had a table issue drive me mad.

Some minor water damage and corner dings bothered me. I sanded patches to see if I could stain match. I had good luck with some bare wood elsewhere. The sanding was faster than expected and showed very pale wood. Then no stain would soak in! Several brands an types, including a thick paste left on for hours. It all wiped off leaving the wood as pale as ever.
