I had my dealer pull my drums before I would sign any paperwork when I picked up my Reflection. 2 of the 4 wheels had grease seals blown and contaminated greased up drums and brake shoes. They replaced the brake assemblies before I would sign anything.

Later that year I had Disc Brakes installed. Amazing difference.

Brand new as in the day we picked up the camper. I turned around (couple miles down the road) and went back to dealership to complain about the brakes. Service told me brakes on camper were ok as they could hear magnets clicking on. Spent their time checking the settings in my truck and telling me something must be wrong with the settings. Dealership says 1) I drove camper off of their lot and 2) I did not request that their service pull the camper wheels to check brakes. Grand Design says I would have to prove faulty work from the factory. We really like the 2600RB but right now, we are not happy campers. Yes, small claims court will be an option.

    Update:
Looks like Grand Design has reconsidered and will pay for the new brakes! My opinion on them has just got a lot better. We look forward to many camping trips in the future and really like the layout of the 2600RB.

In my case I finally got the time to adjust all 4 brakes. They took a lot of turns on the star wheel to get them to make contact.
Haven't had it out yet but will be camping end of the month.

Hi, Jay. You previously stated that the 2600RB has self adjusting brakes. My 2021 does not. Is that a change that was made for the 2022 models?

Could be related to lack of parts.

I am glad mine does not have self adjusters. I was a brake mechanic in a prior life (the 1970's) when drum brakes were the norm. I've seen too many problems with them. I have no problem adjusting mine wherever I am on a trip. I carry a brake spoon with me and use the bottle jack from my truck to raise one wheel at a time. It takes me less than 30 minutes to adjust all four wheels, and I know that they are adjusted correctly.

Figured I'd chime in and add a +1 to the brake issues thread.

I picked up my 30G, my first trailer purchase, in June. About five minutes into the very first time I've ever towed a TH, my truck told me I had no trailer brakes. I kept going because I had no choice, trusting the engine brakes on my Ram would help, which they did, and made it safely to my destination about 100 miles away.

My journey back to the dealer was interesting because for the short time I had the rig, I opened the awning six or seven times, and it started to separate from trailer. On the drive back to Tucson, on the freeway, it started pulling away due to the wind resistance. I drove to the closest Lowe's, which had what must be the smallest Lowe's parking lot in the country. Literally nowhere to park. Continued on surface streets (a lot more braking) to another one that I knew had plenty of room. Bought a ladder and some gorilla tape, secured the awning, and continued on.

Back at the dealer, they found that the brake wires were wedged against the frame. They said when they hooked it up to test, the wires started smoking. The brakes and awning were fixed under warranty, of course, but still. :/

I've learned a lot of lessons in my experience buying my first TH, one of which is to plan on spending all day if necessary having them test every single thing on the rig before I drive off, and doing a few laps around the dealer's lot before committing to fully leave.

After reading this thread, (a number of times over the last few weeks), I feel that I have to chime in. The 320MKS we ordered and picked up from Northgate RV in Ringgold, GA, must have adjusted the drums as part of their PDI for customers because we didn't have any issues with our drum brakes.

That being said, once we got back to Albuquerque, I had them replaced with Kodiak electric over hydraulic disc brakes.

EDIT: so this is another endorsement of Northgate RV? Maybe? [emoji16]
