    gel filled tires

When we purchased our Relection fifth wheel in 2019 we were talked into filling our tires with a gel. They told us it would help prevent blow outs. One distinct disadvantage is that you cannot attach a tire monitoring system. Well it finally happened. We pulled into a campgroound to find on of the tires flat.
Does anyone else have gel filled tires? Is it a good or bad idea.

It's one of the worst ideas on the planet. Not only can you not use a TPMS or tire gauge, no tire shop will touch the tires or wheels because the stuff is such a gooey mess to work with. I wish you luck.

I've never heard of gel filled tires. If it was the dealer who convinced you, I would be having a heart to heart with him or whatever idiot came up with that.

I think he's referring to the liquid/gel "flat-fixer" products. The tire is not actually completely filled with it - they just shoot a can in each tire.

Tire Green Slime, I inquired about this with our local mechanic as it sounded like a good idea when heading in the bush. His reply was, don't bring that tire here.

Don't use fix a lat either If you do and take the tire in for service tell them first. That stuff an cause an explosion when dismounting the tire.

Have you tried to get a bike shop to work on the tires/wheels? Most of them won't touch them, either. And - you do you check the tire pressure since the slime will ruin a tire gauge?

Yes, Rob. I have had that problem. We found a bike shop in El Centro, Calif that would work on them. Cost extra.

Hopefully you don't have aluminum wheels because if you do, you cannot use the tank dip that can be done to dissolve that junk because it'll pit the aluminum. You don't want to be around a tire man that gets that junk on his expensive machine because you didn't advise him it was in the tire!
