    Help with AC!

We are camping in Red River, NM and our AC keeps shutting off. It’s a Dometic AC. It will run for a little bit then stop running. This happens if the thermostat is set on auto, high, or low. We have a Progressive Industries surge protector and it is showing no error codes and everything else is in range (amps, etc.). There is no ice visible. If we turn it off then back on, it will work for a little bit then stop again. It won’t come back on by itself. The air coming out is cool. If important for troubleshooting, we have a soft start on it but that was installed over a year ago and we’ve not had this issue until now.

Right now we will be mostly okay but we are scheduled to be in Moab in a couple weeks and will need AC. We were in Texas last night where it was 98 degrees and it worked fine.

Would appreciate any insight or help to troubleshoot!

    Thanks,
    June

Honestly, it sounds like it's getting frozen. If you are in Red River, the temps are around 80° F in the day, and in the 40's at night/early morning. When we were up there last weekend, we ran the AC once, for about 10 minutes, looks at each other and said, "We should open the windows!" So that's what we did, and didn't run the AC the rest of the weekend.

If you habe the thermostat that has a dry mode on it set that.

If not, my guess would be either way that your thermostat has gone bad.

Thanks, we’ll check it tomorrow. We like fresh air too but DH has a lower tolerance for warm weather than I do.

No dry mode. Guess it could be the thermostat. This is the digital Dometic model that had a lot of problems a couple years ago. Thank you!

Lol. I like the cold, the wife likes the heat... Oh well, something about opposites attract?

You might have to get up there and remove the cover to see the ice.

Check the fuse holder inside the thermostat, pinch the metal holders closer together to hold the fuse tighter. We had this problem when we first got our coach and this fixed it.

DH says there’s no fuse in this one

You didn't say if it is maintaining the temp you want or not (or else I missed it).

Set the AC on a low temp; lower than you'd like. Does it cool to that temp or not? If so: all is OK. If not check to be sure the ducts aren't pointing at the thermostat, check for icing inside the AC on the coils.
