Well, for what it's worth, here's my recommendation.
Give ole Jim Skinner a call at 972-547-5100 and tell him exactly what happened. He's a decent guy even if he is a lawyer and former prosecutor. As sheriff of Collin County he has a lot of folks working with him that might have a bad day.

I'm sure he is familiar with TX Transportation Code, Title 7 Vehicles & Traffic, Subtitle C, Rules of the Road, Chapter 545 Operation and Movement of Vehicles. Especially Subchapter B, Sect. 545.053 where it tells people to drive in the right lane of a multi-laned road, and that the left lane is for passing. There is no exemption for "emergency vehicles". They are to pass traffic in the left lane just like other vehicles.

Ask Jim if he doesn't want to either void that citation or have a judge throw it out. It's fairly straight forward.

Just a suggestion. Worth what it cost.

No Sir. That is incorrect. We have some great Sheriff's departments in Texas and deputies that will put their lives on the line for you any day. As in any profession you will find some bad apples, but saying "they are all the same" is just absolutely wrong.

That's a bad take. Every profession has a "bad apple". Accountants embezzle, firefighters start fires, politicians lie. Ok, the last one is a bad example, but because there's a bad seed doesn't mean the whole crop is trash.

One bad apple ruins the whole barrel if the rest of the apples in the barrel refuse to hold the bad apple accountable or kick them out for bad behavior. The rest of those apples have then earned themselves the scorn that increasingly gets heaped upon them. It is within their control to correct the situation.

So you're saying Irvine Police Department deserves the scorn because Backhills PD? Come on man.

It's pretty much endemic to the profession. The exceptions to the rule (e.g. Camden) are notable because they are exceptions. Should one department get blamed for another's actions? No, ideally not. Took us quite a while to get to this level of PR disaster, won't be solved quickly.

offtohavasu -- you do not seem to understand the quote. You attempt to defend that which cannot be defended.
