We have had good luck with our Swagman trailhead 4 over the last year and 3k miles. We bought ours at camping world was cheaper then listed on Swagman site so best to shop around. Even had trip from Central Ca to Grand Canyon and road running East from AZ line to Grand Canyon was pretty rough. After our first trip I had a hard time getting them fished onto the outriggers and bought some additional items since the girls bikes/upper cross bar is curved and not ideal for the support. Ended up with cross bars and straps for front wheel. Once I used the cross bars was much easier to get them onto the rack.

We have the Thule Range 9057 (RV rated) for hitches. It carries 4 bikes but we put 2 bikes and a 6 foot step ladder on it. I consider it heavy duty. We have a heavy link chain around everything and lock it to one of the holes at the side of the receiver. We are extremely happy with the its operation

What do you guys recommend that will handle the bouncing and jostling of the roads?

This is what we did. No clearance issues, very stable with two 30lb bikes mounted. It may not look like it but its relatively easy to load/unload even while hitched to the truck. I've done it many times by myself. Tons of clearance to the trailer cap. If anyone is interested in the details just ask.

Swagman XTC2. Have used for years on 2 fifth wheels with receivers. Easy to attach, easy to load & unload bikes, easy on my back 'cause I don't have to lift as high, folds up for storage wherever.

For an all aluminum bulletproof solution go with 1UP. Have used them for 10 years with no issues. Weather proof aluminum, easy platform style loading, and infinitely adjustable design. https://www.1up-usa.com/

We bought the 1Up for our ebikes. RV rated and have had no problems with over 10k travel miles. It's made in the USA too.
There are several out there, but make sure it's RV rated to handle the earthquake while being transported.
    Safe travels!

We installed a Curt F150 front hitch. Then we use a Hollywood 1500 dual bike rack. Will hold two 80lb E-bikes.

Loving it so far, but have only been on a couple of two state trips. Will use in the Smokies for changing of the leafs.
